The NCRW Credential

The Nationally Certified Résumé Writer (NCRW) credential has been earned by 38 Résumé Writers. Preparing for and passing the NCRW certification exam associates writers with The National Résumé Writersâ?? Associationâ??s (NRWA) standards of resume excellence, which reflect sales-focused, relevant, succinct career search documents that are quality oriented and visually appealing.

The process consists of four segments:

  1. 1.A writer must be in good standing with The NRWA and have accumulated 10 continuing education units (CEU). CUEs are earned by attending the annual conference and from teleseminars and webinars offered by The NRWA.

  2. 2.A sample résumé and cover letter are submitted anonymously. A grader who is a NCRW reviews the sample. The sample is returned to the writer with the graderâ??s comments and suggestions for improvement. If the sample is judged to be acceptable according to the certification guidelines, then the writer may proceed to step 2. If they are not, the writer must wait 30 days before submitting a new sample.

  3. 3.In step 2, the writer receives what appears to be a well-written résumé. However, it is rife with spelling and grammatical errors. The writer must identify at least 25 errors before proceeding to step 3.

  4. 4.In step 3, the writer is given a case study consisting of a fictitious job seeker with their work history, education, certifications, and professional memberships, along with a job posting. The writer must create a résumé and cover letter within three days, targeting the job posting, and submit it anonymously. This is graded by two NCRW graders. If the résumé and cover letter meet NCRW standards, the writer is awarded the NCRW designation.
